Seen and Unseen

You cannot see the earth moving deep down under the ground but you can feel its effect through earthquakes or you can see the result as you watch a tsunami hit the shore.  You cannot see the wind but you can feel the effect as pelting rain slams into your body or you see the result in uprooted trees tumbled on the ground.

The Bible speaks to the topic of seen and unseen in 2 Corinthians 4:18 when it reminds us that what is seen is only temporary and what is unseen lasts forever.  That is hard for us to understand and think about because we are so involved in this world that we see.

But God wants us to fix our eyes on Him who we cannot see.  What we see is the effect He has on a person who believes in Him and has asked Him to come into his or her life.

The result is amazing – those who once were angry are now peaceful.

Others who were depressed and confused now have hope and purpose.

The Bible calls this transformation in lives a “new creation” – the old is gone and the new is here.  Turning our lives over to the power and control of the God who created the universe and who sent His only Son to die on the cross for the sins of the world will have an effect of change that will last for eternity.

So, where are you today – are you still focused on the things of this world or have you turned your eyes upon Jesus?

This is the important message we strive day in and day out to share with young people and adults.  There is nothing else that matters in this world than what we do with Jesus TODAY.

Thanks for all you do through prayer and support for this ministry.

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.  2 Corinthians 4:18

Faithful God

Celebrations, anniversaries and birthdays can be lots of fun.  You get to eat cake and ice cream and spend time with friends and family.  This year in September we will celebrate the 40th year of Explorer Girls and we will be planning a get together with cake, ice cream and lots more fun.

On Monday, September 13, 1982, the first Explorer Girls’ meeting was held.  There were approximately 70 girls from 1st through 12th grades who were involved in the first year of this new ministry.  Who would have guessed that 40 years later we would still be going strong and serving girls, and women through club meetings and women’s groups.

God knew!  He is the one who originated this work in the hearts and minds of 11 women who sat down and developed the ideas and concepts.  He has sustained it throughout these many years, and He knows the lives that have been touched and the ones who will still be touched as we continue to serve.

When people describe the impact this ministry has had on them they use words like, caring, fun, educational, friendly, stable, an investment of time, and helping people use their strengths and abilities.

All of these words reflect the heart of this ministry which is PEOPLE:

Spending time with them and listening to the hurts and joys that define their lives;

Teaching them truths about God from His Word and giving them helps to apply those truths to their daily living;

Discovering new skills together and helping women and girls to put them into practice.

It is our joy to be involved in lives for the glory of God.

So, the next time you think about an anniversary or birthday, remember EG Ministries Inc./Explorer Girls and say a prayer for us, that God will keep us growing and being a positive influence in the lives of girls and women for the next 40 years and beyond.

Are you ready?

House cleaned?

Groceries purchased for Christmas dinner?

Handmade gifts finished?

Gifts purchased?

Gifts all wrapped?

Cards addressed and sent?

Tree up and decorated?

Cookies baked?

We really do put so many demands on ourselves for what we call a perfect Christmas.

Are you really ready?

Have you acknowledged that you are a sinner who needs Jesus?

Do you believe that Jesus died, was buried, and rose again for you?

Have you called (prayed, talked) to Jesus?  Did you tell Him that you know you’re a sinner? That you believe in the work He did on the cross for you? That you want Him to be your Lord (Leader of your life)?

If you have, then you are really ready to worship the Baby, the Child, the King who was born; the one we celebrate on Christmas morning.

Emmanuel, God with us.

Hallelujah!

Wintertime

Sledding

Building a snowman

Ice skating

Cross country skiing

Making ice cream from fresh snow

All of these things are ahead of many of us this winter. Usually the things we think about are the walks and driveways that have to be cleared or the ice on the roads. Looking at winter is always done in the perspective of the person sharing their view.

Since I am the one writing this, I am sharing my fun view of winter.  To me, it is a majestic time of the year.

The earth is silenced in the snow.

For me it is a reminder of the greatness of my God.  Even in the formation of snowflakes, you have to stop and admire the One Who made them.

The basic shape of the snowflake is based on the temperature in which the crystals form.  It takes about 15 minutes for one snowflake to form and then fall to the ground at a speed of about 2 miles per hour.

God’s creation and His ways are far above our ways.

Isaiah 55:8 says, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord.

We don’t know how much snow will come to us this winter or when it will come. What we do know, is that the One Who makes the snow and holds all of creation in His hand is not controlled by our thoughts or ways.

That makes me happy. I know that I can trust the God of the snowflake for every detail of my life, no matter what it is.

So, when you see that first flake, stop and think about the One Who made that snow; the One Who has a special plan in mind for you.

Christmas Carols

Do you have a favorite Christmas carol?

Joy to the World

O Come All Ye Faithful

O Holy Night

Silent Night

Come on Ring Those Bells

So many beautiful Christmas tunes written to worship the Lord this time of year.

At Explorer Girls last night we had the opportunity while hearing the Christmas story, to sing quite a few of those songs.

As I sang along I noticed that some of us have lost our clear voices,

some sing off key,

some are monotone,

some don’t really know the tune but sing along anyway,

some don’t know all the correct words,

loud,

soft,

altos,

sopranos,

and some singing tenor.

But looking around, I saw each one enjoying singing together and worshiping.

Sometimes we believe that only by standing up, singing loudly and on tune is the way to show true worship.

God doesn’t care if we stand or sit, if we shout or whisper, as long as we have ‘an inward meditative reflection of worship’.

I hope you enjoy singing along this Christmas season!

Psalm 100

1 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!

2 Serve the Lord with gladness!  Come into his presence with singing!

3 Know that the Lord, he is God!  It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!

5 For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.
