As October draws near and we get into the full swing of school and work, are you setting aside time to rest in God? God wants
to bless us with peace and renewal, but it can be easy to lose sight of rest and time with Him when the world seems to constantly demand that we hustle and be busy. And yet, if God could rest after creating the entire universe, you too have the time to devote to spiritual rest if you trust that God will provide you enough time to also get work done! After all, according to Psalm 127:1, “Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.” This season, we challenge you to reflect on what might be preventing you from spending restful time with Him. How might you adjust your priorities to make sure God is not second to your workload? When God comes first, our burden becomes light.
Being thankful ISN’T what you think…
Thank you is a two-word phrase that speaks to one’s gratitude usually FOR something, or BECAUSE of something. It’s a REACTION to kindness. Kids are taught to say thank you at a very young age to anyone who has done something nice for them: Given them a toy, helped them with a project, fed them, etc. As we age, we understand that the words ‘thank you’ often are not enough to express our sincerest appreciation. We mature into using more than our words to verbalize our gratefulness. It’s in this move from words to actions that we begin to understand what being thankful is all about.
You see, being thankful isn’t what you think…
It’s not just an expression.
It’s not just in actions.
It’s not just a REACTION.
Being thankful is a lifestyle.
It’s how you live.
It is your ACTION.
Gratitude is how you worship, how you value others and treat your possessions.
Thankfulness is living in appreciation for EVERYTHING!
For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving… 1 Timothy 4:4
Stormy Sea
“I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for He is right beside me.” Psalm 16:8
I am sure that at one time or another you may have felt all alone or bewildered in the midst of a situation in which you found yourself. You tried to figure out how to fix the problem or how to get out of the boat that was being swallowed up by the wind and the waves. Like the Disciples, in a stormy event on the Sea of Galilee, we can see and feel the assault of the storm and we want desperately to find a way of escape. The good news to remember is that Jesus is in the boat with us.
His PRESENCE is there in the midst of the angry elements that seek to destroy us.
If you have ever had these experiences, then Psalm 16:8 is the verse for you to memorize and remember. “The Lord is ALWAYS with me. I will not be shaken, for He is right beside me.” Believe it! Claim it! Live it!
